Toledo is simply teeming with birdlife! Ask us for more details and we can create a package based on your requirements, all with your own friendly, knowledgeable bird guide!

Snorkelling

Enjoy a full day of swimming and snorkeling at some of Belize’s best snorkeling spots. Snorkel in Port Honduras Marine Reserve and discover idyllic, paradise islands and pristine coral reefs!

You can enjoy your lunch on one of the idyllic, paradise islands   then bask in the sun on the white, sandy beach.

We often stop at the ranger station at Abalone Caye, where you can have a tour and learn about the marine conservation initiatives in the area.

Hokeb Ha Cave, Blue Creek

Often referred to as one of Toledo’s most impressive natural sites, Hokeb Ha Cave is a “must see”!  Set in the beautiful village of Blue Creek you walk up around 30-40 minutes up a rocky trail through beautiful scenery, surrounded by nature.

Hokeb Ha is a wet cave, with unique rock formations. The water is cool, and the inside is stunning with crystal clear mineral pools! Life vests, helmet and torches are provided!

Waterfalls

Escape the heat and spend the day surrounded by nature. Jump into the “refreshing” crystal  clear waters Toledo has to offer.  Head out through beautiful countryside and Authentic Mayan villages to the Rio Blanco Nature Reserve. The Rio Blanco flows through wide shallow pools before cascading over a 15 foot drop.  A stone ledge at the end of the trail provides an excellent “jumping off” spot for the more adventurous “thrill seekers” amongst us! But be warned, the climb back up can be a little tough! Spend an hour with a local guide exploring the national park before chilling out on your own and swimming in the pools. Once you have built up a hunger you will head for lunch at the lovely “Farm Inn” (subject to availability)

The Farm Inn is a privately run family farm with over 52 acres of secondary jungle, 6000 cacao trees and over 1000 coffee bushes. The food is fabulous and tends to be a fusion of International and Belizean cuisine. You can explore the many jungle trails on the property,
pet the animals in their domestic farm or visit their birding tower to see the huge diversity of birds on the property. If that’s not for you, then you can simply relax in and around the  swimming pool or bar area.

After lunch  you can visit San Antonio waterfalls, just a mile from the Village itself. Smaller than Rio Blanco, but just as pretty, the water cascades over an 8 foot drop into a lovely pool area, perfect for bathing! The water is “fresh” and the surrounding vegetation is lush and green. You can often see hummingbirds and dragonflies bathing in the spray of the water.

Zip lining and river tubing

Spend the day in the beautiful village of Big Falls, flying through the trees and floating down the river.

Big Falls Extreme Adventures boasts 6 “zip line rides”, ranging from 350-400 feet. You will have great fun soaring through the tree tops and flying across the river, the picturesque Rio Grande.  When your feet are firmly back on the ground you will have lunch on site at their lovely restaurant “Las Faldas Bar and Grill”. You can choose from a delicious selection of Belizean cuisine whilst relaxing and taking in the beautiful river view.

After lunch you will get changed and ready for the river tubing.  It is an extremely relaxing way to take in the countryside. Starting just north of Big Falls village you will cruise in your own “tube” for around one mile, taking in the sights. En route you can stop at the creek that enters Rio Grande and enjoy the Hot Springs! A not to be missed experience!!

Tiger Cave

When you enter Tiger cave, it is easy to imagine the ancient Maya holding their ceremonies there. Caves were amongst the most sacred places and used for rituals, sacrifices and communication with the spirits. The entrance chamber is strewn with shards of broken pottery other evidence of Maya presence.

As you explore the cave, you will see stalactites, stalagmites and other unique rock formations. The cave has narrow passageways, huge chambers and underground rivers. Each turn a new challenge. The final chamber, more than a mile into the cave, is filled with
spectacular rock formations and well worth the effort.

You will join your tour guide in a “dug out canoe” for the trip back down the river towards San Miguel, where you may see local women washing in the river, or the children playing!! Sit back, relax and take in the breathtaking scenery and local wildlife, there really is no better way to travel!!

This excursion is only recommended for people who are very physically fit. From the road to the cave, visitors must navigate a steep drop down a dirt path. Inside the cave, expect to walk on slick cave floors, climb boulders and navigate loose gravel slopes.

Kayak the Rio Grande

Enjoy a leisurely kayak ride, with an expert nature guide on the beautiful Rio Grande. You will start at San Miguel village then spend the next 3.5 to 4 hours taking in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife.

Our friendly guide Stephen will point out numerous birds, flora and fauna along route. A dry bag is provided for your cameras and binoculars and snacks and water are provided too.

If you want to make a day of it you can have lunch at a lovely jungle lodge and then spend your afternoon river tubing and relaxing by a beautiful swimming pool in elegant surroundings.
